National Pig Day is observed annually on March 1st to celebrate just how much pigs have become a part of our every day lives in the US, focusing on their cute and intelligent nature, not as a meal. We enjoy them in art, TV shows and toys, and some have even domesticated them to live on as their pet (which is what I would do if I could!).
In honor of National Pig Day, I’ve searched free pig crochet patterns and put together a collection of almost 50 cute pig crochet patterns for you! You’ll find home decor projects like crocheted pig stuffies, coasters and blankets as well as cute crochet pig themed beanies and appliques.
After crocheting up an adorable pig, check your local area to see if they’re hosting any kind of event in honor of them, especially zoos and farms. Some offer meet and greets with pigs as well as pig themed arts and crafts activities.
You can also celebrate pigs on National Farm Animals Day, celebrated April 10th, World Farm Animals Day, celebrated October 2nd, during Farm Animal Awareness Day, celebrated during the third week of September, or really any time of year because do we really need a reason to celebrate these sweet animals?

Free Pig Crochet Patterns in Fingering Weight Yarn:

Finger Puppet Pig designed by Ceri Wilkinson in a non-specified fingering weight yarn. Scheepjes Catona, Circulo Anne and Knit Picks Comfy Fingering are great fingering weight options that aren’t heavy on the wool (like sock yarns), but you could easily use your favorite fingering weight yarn from your stash.

You can even go up to lightweight yarns, since some of them are so close in gauge to sport weight.

Apricot the Pig designed by Cara Engwerda in La Mia Mini Cottony, a 100% cotton yarn from Hobium in Turkey. Free Pig Crochet Pattern in Worsted Weight Yarn:

The Three NOT So Little Pigs designed by Elise Rose Crochet. The really fun thing about these adorable pig dolls is that each one was crocheted in a different worsted weight yarns with the same size crochet hook throughout, and you can see there are 3 different sized dolls. This is why matching gauge is so important, but a great example of how changing the yarn can produce different sized projects – I love experimenting this way, even going up or down yarn categories. In height order, Elise used Premier Yarn Cotton Sprout Worsted, a 100% cotton yarn, Premier Yarn Basix Worsted, a 100% acrylic yarn, and Berroco Vintage, a blend of 52% acrylic, 40% wool and 8% nylon.
