Sunday Stitching — 1st & 3rd Sunday Each Month from 12:00pm to 5:00pm
On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, myself, Alexandra, and Emily of Crochet Aweigh hang out in the living room of the Yarn Crafts & Coffee shop — that’s booth 50 inside America’s Antique Mall. We invite you to join us anytime from 12:00pm to 5:00pm for Sunday Stitching.
Bring a project to work on or grab a free copy of this week’s featured crochet pattern – I will have a hand out of one of my own designs. Emily and I are both crocheters so you will see us crocheting throughout the day, but knitters, needlepointers, embroiderers, readers — all are welcome to come, hang out and chit chat. This is not a one-on-one, beginners class, but there is usually someone available to help answer any questions you may have about crocheting and/or to help get you started if you want to learn.
Cost: $0.00 — No reservation needed.
Crochet Classes:

Shay Coasters — Saturday, February 8th from 10:30am to 12:30pm {Reserve your Spot}
This is a great beginner friendly project to learn the basics of crocheting and practice tension. We’ll be using single crochet stitches for this cute coaster, which also works as large facial scrubbie to clean your face with and remove make up or as a small kitchen scrubbie for dishes.
Coasters (and scrubbies) make excellent gifts and are great projects for on the go and stashbusting. Once you’re comfortable with chaining and single crocheting in rows, you can apply the same concept to create larger projects, like washcloths, scarves, shawls, blankets and more, or even try different techniques and yarns such as changing colors to create stripes or holding a strand of scrubbie yarn together with your cotton yarn for extra scrubbing power.
If you do not want a coaster/scrubbie, you can follow the same pattern to work up an afghan square that can later be used for other projects, such as a tote bag, throw pillow or blanket.
Cost: $20 — Supplies included
Supplies will include a written crochet pattern, 1 ball of worsted weight #4 cotton yarn — specifically, Lion Brand Pima Cotton or Lion Brand Local Grown Cotton — and a H8/5mm crochet hook. I will have other class supplies on hand such as tapestry needles for weaving in ends, scissors and tape measures.
For me, they take about 20 minutes to work up. This seems like a small amount of time in the two hour span of the class, but as a beginner, you will be starting and possibly restarting so you most likely will get about halfway finished by the end of the class. If you have some crochet experience, you should finish the coaster and learn how to evenly single crochet around to add a simple border. Pay once for the class, and return in the same time slot on another Saturday or during Sunday Stitching to continue working and/or finish the coaster together.
In this class you will review / learn how to: read a crochet pattern — make a slip knot — crochet a chain — work into a chain — single crochet in rows — evenly single crochet around for a simple border (optional) — weave in ends.

Genesis Slouch Hat — Saturday, February 8th, 15th and 22nd as well as March 1st from 12:45pm to 2:45pm {Reserve your Spot}
Learn how to crochet a cute granny square slouchy hat that combines traditional granny squares with the classic granny stitch.
You do not have to know how to crochet to take this class, but it is helpful to be comfortable with working basic stitches before doing an in the round project, like this hat. This hat also uses a joining technique to attach the squares to each other. I highly recommend taking the coaster class first or coming to Sunday Stitching to practice some basic stitches and your tension.
If you don’t want to crochet an entire hat, you can work just the band of granny squares and you’ll have a cute headband / ear warmer.
Cost: $20 — Supplies included
Supplies will include a written crochet pattern in Adult size, 2 balls of worsted weight #4 yarn — specifically, Cascade Pacific (wool blend), Lion Brand Jeans or Color Theory (acrylic) or Berroco Modern Cotton (cotton blend) OR yarn equal to in value — and a H8/5mm crochet hook. I will have other class supplies on hand such as tapestry needles for weaving in ends, scissors and tape measures.
Usually, when comparing gauge, you are instructed to go up or down a hook size to meet gauge. We will discuss this and I will have larger and smaller hooks on hand to switch to if needed. I will show you how to check gauge and adjust as needed to get the correct size so the finished hat will fit correctly.
For me, this beanie took just under 2 hours — keep in mind you may need to restart the first granny square depending on how the gauge compares. Pay once for the class, and return in the same time slot on another Saturday or during Sunday Stitching to continue working and/or finish the hat together.
In this class you will review / learn how to: read a crochet pattern — make a granny square — measure gauge (and adjust as needed to ensure proper fit) — join-as-you-go granny squares — work the Granny Stitch in the round — decrease for the top of the hat — sew closed to finish — weave in ends.

Haylee Washcloths — Saturday, February 8th, 15th and 22nd from 3:00pm to 5:00pm {Reserve your Spot}
This is a great beginner friendly project to learn the basics of crocheting and practice tension. We’ll be using half double crochet stitches for this washcloth, which feels amazing against the skin in the shower and also works well in the kitchen to wash and dry dishes.
Washcloths make excellent gifts and are great projects for on the go and stashbusting. Once you’re comfortable with chaining and half double crocheting in rows, you can apply the same concept to create larger projects, like scarves, shawls, pillow, blankets and more, or even try different techniques and yarns such as changing colors to create stripes or holding a strand of scrubbie yarn together with your cotton yarn for extra scrubbing power.
If you do not want a washcloth, you can follow the same pattern to work up an afghan square that can later be used for other projects, such as a tote bag, throw pillow or blanket.
Cost: $20 — Supplies included

I will have other class supplies on hand such as tapestry needles for weaving in ends, scissors and tape measures.
For me, a 7″ size takes just under 45 minutes. This seems like a small amount of time in the two hour span of the class, but as a beginner, you will be starting and possibly restarting so you most likely only get a few rows in by the end of the class. If you have some crochet experience, you may get further or even complete the washcloth and learn how to evenly single crochet around to add a simple border. Pay once for the class, and return in the same time slot on another Saturday or during Sunday Stitching to continue working and/or finish the washcloth together.
In this class you will review / learn how to: read a crochet pattern — make a slip knot — crochet a chain — work into a chain — half double crochet in rows — evenly single crochet around for a simple border (optional) — add a hanging loop (optional) — weave in ends.
In the Field:
The shop’s home base is inside America’s Antique Mall in Melbourne, Florida, but I love attending special events, like the Brevard County Farmers Market, and teaching in other locations as well, like at Crochet Aweigh in Tavares, Florida! Here are some other events where you’ll find me:

Little Pebbles Ear Warmer — Wednesday, February 5th, 19th and 26th from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Crochet Aweigh in Tavares, Florida {Text “Pebbles” to 352-636-9445 to Reserve your Spot}
I just love the cozy, textured crochet stitch pattern created by alternating single crochets and treble crochets.
You can work an ear warmer in different ways, but I wanted these to be beginner friendly so I’ve chosen a rectangle design worked in rows. You do not have to know how to crochet to take this class.
Cost: $20 + Yarn + Crochet Hook
You can choose to work with a lightweight #3 yarn and a G6/4.25mm — worsted weight #4 yarn and a H8/5mm — or chunky weight #5 yarn and a L11/8mm crochet hook. Any fiber content except 100% cotton and 100% polyester.
For me, depending on the yarn, they take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half to make an adult sized ear warmer. Pay once for the class, and return in the same time slot on another Wednesday or during Tuesday night Stitch Night to continue working and/or finish the ear warmer together.
Written Crochet Pattern in Toddler, Child and Adult sizes will be provided with the class.
In this class you will review / learn how to: read a crochet pattern — make a slip knot — crochet a chain — work into a chain — single crochet in rows — treble crochet — measure gauge/ear warmer to ensure proper fit — sew ends together to create a tube — weave in ends.

Endless Summer Wreath — Thursday, February 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Crochet Aweight in Tavares, Florida {Must Pre-Pay Here to Reserve your Spot}
I love Hydrangeas. This crocheted flower is my version of that beautiful flower. I’ve made so many different versions of this wreath with different color schemes and various sizes of flowers – it’s so much fun! And if you use sewing pins instead of gluing down your flowers (that’s what I did), then you can easily change out the flowers throughout the year.
This wreath is a beginner friendly project. We start with a rectangle worked in rows, then sew that around the wreath form. The flowers are worked in chains and single crochets and the sewn together. You do not have to know how to crochet to take this class.
Cost: $40 — Supplies included
Supplies will include a written crochet pattern, a 12″ styrofoam wreath, 2 balls of worsted weight #4 yarn — specifically, Cascade Pacific or Berroco Modern Cotton (or any other yarn equal in price) — and a H8/5mm crochet hook. I will have other supplies on hand such as tapestry needles for sewing, glue and sewing pins.
For me, this wreath came together in around five hours. The wreath base cover itself took just over two hours. The smaller flower takes about 9 minutes, and the larger flowers about 12 minutes to stitch and sew up. Pay once for the class, and return in the same time slot on another Thursday evening or during Tuesday night Stitch Night or select times on Wednesdays to continue working and/or finish the wreath together.
In this class you will review / learn how to: read a crochet pattern — make a slip knot — crochet a chain — work into a chain — single crochet in rows — measure rectangle to ensure proper fit — whipstitch (for seaming) — weave in ends — crochet flowers — crochet an optional wreath hanger.
