For the next 7 days, we’re thrilled to be bringing you 7 patriotic DIY crafts featuring 4th of July crochet patterns, a patriotic embroidery pattern and a patrotic plastic canvas pattern.

This Seeing Stars Crafting Event kicks off on May 4th and will run through May 10th – 7 days in total.

I’m teaming up with my friends Emily of Crochet Aweigh and Candace of T&C Crafters for this event. Each day, there will be a different featured craft pattern, and it will either be available on one of their blogs or on one of mine – EyeLoveKnots blog or Yarn Crafts & Coffee. We’re going to share a total of 5 crochet projects, 1 embroidery pattern and 1 plastic canvas pattern.

Below you’ll find the schedule. This post will update by 10am EST on it’s day, and I will send a newsletter out at that time to let you know.

Did you know that blog subscribers can download PDFs right from our Free File Library? Each month, I change the password so you'll just want to reference your newest newsletter for it.

May 4th -Day 1

Crochet some quick star coasters that are perfect for an Americana themed house or 4th of July celebration, or change the colors of the stars for Graduation, Christmas and New Years!

You’re going to need some worsted weight yarn – I love using Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6, WeCrochet Dishie and Queensland Coastal Cotton for my coasters because these yarns are colorfast, which means the color is set so you don’t have to worry about the colors fading and bleeding when used and washed, but if you are only making a coaster that will house a cold or hot beverage, you can easily use acrylic as an alternative – do not put anything fresh from the oven on the acrylic coaster, or you will melt the fibers and risk burning yourself – or even use a wool.

While gauge is not essential for this project, keep in mind as you are substituting yarns the diameter for your cup to sit on. If you wanted to use a lighter weight yarn, I might recommend holding 2 or 3 strands together. Synthetic yarns like Red Heart Super Saver usually produce a tighter and smaller fabric, so you may want to go up to an I9/5.5mm crochet hook.

may 5th -Day 2

Looking for a more abstract way to show your patriotism? The Oh My Stars Top by Crochet Aweigh will let you do just that! With its’ customizable options like crop top, tank, or tunic lengths you have freedom to choose your favorite look! This design features the crochet color pooling technique and the star stitch.

You’ll need some fingering weight yarn – I love using hand dyed yarn from our local Florida yarn dyers! For the sample I used a yarn exclusive to my shop from Indigo Child Dye Art Studios Called “Van Gogh House“, but she has lots of other lovely colors too! You mainly want to look for a yarn that will do the color pooling technique in order to achieve this looks. Another great option would be Circulo Anne Mulitcolor, or Wonderland Yarns Mary Ann Sock Color Burst.

Color pooling can be done in a few different ways, but I chose the easy way here. Color pooling is a technique that uses variegated yarns to create intentional designs in a crocheted or knitted project. Sometimes it can come out like a plaid or argyle if done very carefully. I simply chose to do a plain stitch (a half double crochet in this case) whenever I had the main color on my hook, and the star stitch whenever I had the yellow and orange colors on my hook. This did not create an intentional plaid pattern, but I do love how it looks like little stars in the sky!

This pattern includes made to measure and graded instructions, which means you can choose to gauge swatch…or you could not! Normally the made-to-measure is the only version available for free and the graded version is paid on Ravelry, but the pattern will be available to download from Ravelry for FREE during this blog hop! Click on the link below to view the made-to-measure version, and find the coupon code to download the full version during this event.

may 6th -Day 3

If you’re in search of a fun, kid-friendly pattern to make up for the patriotic holiday season, the Boom the Firecracker Pattern by Shield Maiden Crochet is a must-have! This is a super quick, super easy, beginner-friendly pattern that comes out absolutely adorable!

This firecracker stuffed toy can be made in just about 30 minutes and uses only basic stitches, making it perfect for any level of crocheter. Using super bulky yarn like Bernat Blanket yarn or Big Twist Plush, it works up really quickly, so you can even make a whole set for decor or party favors.

Whether you are using these as toys or decor, they are sure to make a big impression! Find even more details about this pattern, and a link to the pattern in the review over on Eye Love Knots.

may 7th – Day 4

Crochet an easy patriotic hand towel using simple half double crochet stitches, and red, white and blue stars that is perfect for an Americana themed home or Farmhouse 4th of July, or change the colors of the stars for Christmas and New Years!

Handmade hand towels are a beautiful decorative and functional piece to add to the kitchen or bathroom decor.

You’re going to need some worsted weight cotton yarn – I love using Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6, WeCrochet Dishie and Queensland Coastal Cotton for my hand towels because these yarns are colorfast, which means the color is set so you don’t have to worry about the colors fading and bleeding when used and washed. You’re also going to need an H8/5mm crochet hook.

may 8th – Day 5

Learn how to cut and stitch a small plastic canvas flag that looks like it’s waving in the wind. This wavy flag would make a great magnet, statement necklace pendant, brooch or embellishment.

Along with your basic supplies, you’re going to need small amounts of a Sport Weight #2 Yarn or a Lightweight #3 Yarn – I used Premier Yarns Basix DK in the Royal Blue, Cherry Red and White colors and a small piece of 10 mesh plastic canvas.

may 9tH – Day 6

Looking for a simple, meaningful way to decorate for the Fourth of July? This DIY God Bless America Embroidery Hoop is an easy craft that adds a handmade, patriotic touch to your home decor.

This embroidery hoop project is great for beginners and experts alike! It uses felt to make a big impact and only requires knowledge of three different embroidery techniques (running stitch, backstitch, and French knots) so no advanced stitching skills needed.

Along with your basic supplies, you’re going to need an 8″ embroidery hoop, white fabric, water soluble pen, sewing pins, embroidery floss, ribbon and hot glue.

may 10TH – Day 7

To make the Quick Star Applique, you’ll need about 12 yards of yarn. The awesome thing about appliques is that you have so much flexibility with the sizing depending on what you’ll use them for. Choose any weight yarn out of your stash and use the respective size crochet hook, even as tiny as sewing thread!
