We’re going to share a total of 5 crochet projects and 1 plastic canvas pattern.

June 1st -Day 1 – Watermelon Slice Applique

Crochet a cute little Watermelon Slice Applique that’s perfect for a variety of Summer projects. Here are a few ideas: sew it onto a granny square, garment or beanie, glue it onto the front of a card, starch it to create a pendant for a necklace or earring, make a bunch and string them together as a garland.

Appliques are great projects for yarn scraps and it’s so easy to change up the size by simply changing the yarn size and hook.

I’ve worked mine using a worsted weight yarn – For 100% cottons, I love using Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6, WeCrochet Dishie and Cascade Nifty Cotton because they’re colorfast, which means the colors are set so I don’t have to worry about the colors fading or bleeding when using or washing the project, but as an applique, you can reach for any fiber yarn that matches your project, and you can also use any weight yarn with the respective crochet hook to achieve different sizes of the applique.

Because it jumps from the seed row to the row of white and doesn’t have an extra row of red in between, as is the applique works best visually in worsted weight #4, chunky weight #5 and super chunky weight #6 yarns, but if you’d like to use a lighter weight yarn, I just recommend adding an additional row to the pattern after row 3 in solid red across.

June 2nd -Day 2 – Blueberry Kitchen Scrubby

Crochet an adorable Blueberry Kitchen Scrubby! These little guys are perfect for gifting to just about anyone, or to make for Summer markets if you are a handmade seller! They are incredibly quick to work up if you are looking for a project with instant gratification!

You will need about 20 yards of a Chunky #5 weight scrubby yarn and some 100% cotton yarn scraps of green and brown. The recommended hook size is L/8.00mm, but use what you’re comfortable with as gauge is not important here. My scrubbies came out to about 3 1/2″ across.

I’ve tried many different “scrubby” yarns, but I really like Yarn Bee Scrub-Ology Scrub It Yarn from Hobby Lobby for kitchen scrubbies. The yarn is labeled as a chunky #5 weight, but it is definitely more like a bulky #6. This one is very dense, making it great for those tough messes in the kitchen. Another great choice would be Lion Brand Stitch Soak Scrub, but this yarn is quite a bit thinner than the Yarn Bee Scrub-Ology. If you chose the Lion Brand I would recommend holding a 100% cotton worsted #4 weight yarn along with it. This will give you a much softer kitchen scrubby, but it will still do the trick! For 100% cotton worsted weight yarns I used I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby, but some other excellent choices include Circulo Cotton Max Color 4/6, or Nifty Cotton from Cascade Yarns.

June 3rd -Day 3 – Land turtle dress up crochet pattern review

The Land Turtle Dress Up Crochet Pattern by Allez Crochet is a 15-in-1 pattern that makes a turtle with interchangeable shells. There are so many fun shell designs including pineapple, grapes, raspberry, kiwi, blueberry, watermelon, strawberry, orange, and dragon fruit.

I love how cute this pattern has worked up! The turtle on its own is a nice size that makes a perfect toy, and the interchangeable shells are absolutely adorable. I can’t wait to make the rest of the shell patterns and try out the whole collection!

This pattern calls for super bulky yarn. The designer used Premier Parfait Chunky, but I chose to use a variety of yarns including Bernat Blanket yarn and Baby Bee Snugs and Kisses yarn. The patterns could easily be made in a thinner plush yarn. I can’t wait to try out this pattern using Ella Rae Cuddle yarn for a slightly smaller set of shells for a turtle.

june 4th – Day 4

The Citrus Grove Bucket Hat is an eye-catching project for Summer, and perfect to keep those warm sun rays off your face.

This is an advanced beginner to intermediate level crochet pattern that starts by making the top of the hat, then 6 square motifs, attaching them, and then finally the brim. My favorite detail on this hat is the leaves on the brim! I have created a coupon code to download the pattern from Ravelry for free through the end of the blog hop! Navigate to the Citrus Grove Bucket Hat on my blog, scroll down a little, and you’ll find the coupon code!

This pattern uses 100% cotton yarn in a worsted #4 weight. I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in White, Tangerine, Goldenrod, and grass. While you’ll need quite a bit for the main portion of the hat (180 yards of the white), you can easily pull scraps for the fruit motifs and embellishments as they’re only about 45 yards each. You could even do pink for grapefruit, green for lime or blue for blueberry!

I really love Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton for things like this because it is one of the more “structured” cotton yarns. The texture of it lends wonderfully to creating a stiff fabric for something like a bucket hat. Another great option would be Nifty Cotton from Cascade Yarns. You will need a size G6/4.00mm crochet hook or whichever hook needed to meet gauge.

june 5th – Day 5 – Pineapple Soap Cozy or Small Gift Bag

Crochet an adorable little bag that can be used as a soap cozy (gift with homemade soap or facial scrubbies), a favor/ candy pouch, or a small gift bag (gift with a pair of earrings or gift card).

I’ve worked mine using a worsted weight yarn – For 100% cottons, I love using Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6, WeCrochet Dishie, Queensland Coastal Cotton and Cascade Nifty Cotton because they’re colorfast, which means the colors are set so I don’t have to worry about the colors fading or bleeding when using or washing the project, but as a gift bag, candy pouch or favor bag, you can reach for any fiber desired.

june 6tH – Day 6

The Citrus Grove Tote Bag is the compliment to the Citrus Grove Bucket Hat from Day 4!

Summer is my favorite time of year. I love going to the Beach, or to the Florida Springs, and the Citrus Grove Tote bag is the perfect companion! This delightful bag will keep all of your Summertime necessities safe from the sun, while being practical as it is machine washable! Wash all that beach sand right out! I have created a coupon code to download the pattern from Ravelry for free through the end of the blog hop! Navigate to the Citrus Grove Tote Bag on my blog, scroll down a little, and you’ll find the coupon code!

This pattern uses 100% cotton yarn in a worsted #4 weight. I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in White, Tangerine, Goldenrod, and grass. You will need about 300 yards of white, 170 yards of tangerine, 136 yards of goldenrod, and about 80 yards of grass. You could even do pink for grapefruit, green for lime or blue for blueberry!

Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton is one of my favorite cotton yarns to use. It has an interesting texture, is very affordable, and comes in quite a few different colors! It hold up really well for projects that get a lot of use, like this Citrus Grove tote bag or this steering wheel cover I made for my car. If you are looking for a cotton that is a little softer, but with equal durability, Nifty Cotton from Cascade Yarns is a great choice too! You will need a size G6/4.00mm and a size H8/5.00mm crochet hook or whichever hook needed to meet gauge. I also include some loose instructions on how to line the bag if you wish!

june 7th – Day 7

You’ll enjoy this fun, easy and quick little crochet pattern perfect for the Summer staple seen everywhere – sunglasses!

I’ve worked mine using a worsted weight yarn – For 100% cottons, I love using Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6, WeCrochet Dishie and Cascade Nifty Cotton because they’re colorfast, which means the colors are set so I don’t have to worry about the colors fading or bleeding after washing the project (or getting caught in the rain). Because this bag will most likely see a lot of use, and going in and out of a bag, I recommend cotton yarn as it’s more durable than say an acrylic yarn.

june 8th – Day 8

I’m in a Summer state of mind! There are few things better than sitting on a warm pool deck or at the beach with an ice cold glass of lemonade. I also love me a good Summer Tablescape! I designed these Sunny Citrus Placemats for a Mediterranean-themed tablescape Alexandra and I were setting up at Yarn Crafts & Coffee in Melbourne, FL. They really pulled our theme together! If lemons aren’t your thing you can also make them in pink for grapefruit, orange for well, oranges, and green for limes! Today through the end of the hop on June 10th, there is a coupon code to download the pattern from Ravelry for free! Navigate to the Sunny Citrus Placemats on my blog, scroll down a little, and you’ll find the coupon code!

This pattern uses 100% cotton yarn in a worsted #4 weight. I used I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby in Curry and White. You will need about 150 yards of the main color and 20 yards of the white. I Love This Cotton is a very soft cotton option. If you want something with a little more structure, Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton is a great go-to. I used an H8/5.00mm crochet hook to get gauge. The pattern is written for 3 sizes: small at 12″ diameter, medium at 14″ diameter, and large at 16″ diameter.

june 9th – Day 9 – Free Crochet Jar opener pattern

With just a little bit of cotton yarn and some shelf liner, you can whip up some helpful jar openers in as little as ten minutes! The Free Crochet Jar Opener Pattern is incredibly beginner-friendly, using only single crochet.

Jar openers are great for opening up fruity jam and jelly! They make great housewarming and hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, and market makes.

This pattern works best with worsted weight cotton yarn. Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton would be great for this project!

june 10TH – Day 10 – Scottie Shane Watermelon Mug Rug

Cut and stitch a watermelon themed mug rug that is perfect to sit your coffee/tea on and a sweet treat on this Summer, or use as a doily.

I combined my favorite stitch, the alternating scotch stitch, with a sweet little Smyrna Cross Stitch in the center. With the stitches crossing over each other a couple of times in the Smyrna Cross Stitch, it does raise the stitch slightly from the rest of the fabric, but also, the way the scotch stitches frame the Smyrna Cross Stitch, it makes it stand out a bit more too.
