Gia Top — Sunday, May 11th | Sunday, May 25th | Sunday, June 8th from 12:30pm to 2:30pm
*Note: May 11th is Mother’s Day. America’s Antique Mall (where we’re located) has some other special things going on the same day that mom will surely love, but if you have other plans and cannot make it this day, you can contact me to start early on Sunday, May 4th – I need to know ahead of time to be prepared.

The Gia Top is a variation of the Gia Tank Top.
You guys told me you wanted to learn how to make your own clothing – done! And you told me you wanted to have flexibility in choosing a style that fits you best – done!
Granny square projects are so fun and versatile, and a great project for beginners and advanced crocheted alike.
We will have 3 variations so you can make a tank top, a tee shirt or a cropped top.
I’ve worked my tank top and shirt in a lightweight #3 yarn – Berroco Modern Cotton DK – we’ll discuss yarns in a moment.

Note: You may be interested in our Let’s Crochet Together Club, where you receive 2 premium, exclusive crochet patterns each month. May’s includes this crocheted top. If you join the club for May, I will give you a credit of $10 to use in the yarn shop.
Is this class beginner friendly?
You do not have to know how to crochet to take this class, but it is helpful to be comfortable with working basic stitches before doing an in the round project, like a granny square. It’s also a bigger project so it may take you a bit longer to complete. Do not let this discourage you though, you got this! Beginners welcome!
Is this class kid friendly?
This is not a kid’s crochet class, but I do welcome all ages and skill levels. I only ask for children to be able to sit and focus for the two hour time period. If you think your child/grandchild would be better suited working in a shorter time period, please bring them to Sunday Stitching, and we can work more one on one there in smaller time blocks.
What is the schedule like? What will we be learning?
This class is split into 3 meetings with option check in meetings in our Sunday Stitching (which is free to attend).
*Sunday, May 11th: Measure and Get Started
Day 1, we will be measuring our bodies and choosing the size we’d like to make based on our desired fit and style. Then, we’ll begin creating a granny square that will become part of the body of our top. We’ll touch base on changing yarn colors if you’d like to work in stripes or blocks.
You can skip measuring in class, and measure at home your: bust measurement and desired length of top from top of shoulder down (ie waist length, hip length, custom).
If you are a beginner, we’ll be learning chains and double crochet stitches to create the granny square.
Homework: Continue working on your granny square up to the measurement we decide on in class. Begin another granny square and work it to the same measurement.
Sunday, May 18th: Optional, Check In at Sunday Stitching
Come to Sunday Stitching and hang out with us while you work on your granny squares. Happy to answer any questions you may have, or help you get started on the next section.
Sunday, May 25th: Seam Sides
Day 2, we will join our sides seams so the body will be a tube, and then begin adding length, depending on the size, style and fit with the classic granny stitch pattern.
You can choose to work a join as you go method, crochet the layers together with a slip stitch or whipstitch – we will explore the options together.
If we have time, we’ll get into the shoulders.
Sunday, June 1st: Optional, Check In at Sunday Stitching
Come to Sunday Stitching and hang out with us while you work on your top. Happy to answer any questions you may have, or help you get started on the next section.
Sunday, June 8th: Add Length/Shoulders and Finish
Day 3, we will work on creating/finishing our shoulders and seaming them up, then we’ll finish the neckline, bottom edging and arm areas. If desired, we’ll add sleeves.
are supplies included?
Supplies are NOT included, and must be purchased separately. Feel free to come Sunday, May 1st during Sunday Stitching or at 12:00pm before class for help choosing yarn.
I’ve worked my tank top in Lion Brand Coboo (lightweight #3) and tee shirt in Berroco Modern Cotton DK (#3 yarn), but you can use any yarn from fingering weight #1 up through worsted weight #4. Living in Florida, I prefer a cotton blend, like Kitty Bea Coquina (fingering weight), Berroco Modern Cotton DK or Worsted or Lion Brand Coboo (lightweight), but you can easily change this up to match your preference. I do not recommend a 100% polyester or 100% cotton as these yarns do not have any characteristics within them to stretch and bounce back to shape.
You’ll also need a respective size crochet hook, a tapestry needle and scissors (which can also be purchased in the shop).
While I appreciate your support, if you have yarn at home in your stash that you’d like to use, feel free to bring it with the respective size crochet hook.
I have not calculated the yardages for the new versions of the top yet, but when I originally designed the tank top using Coboo, these are the yardages for sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X: 395 (534, 696, 812, 1044, 1253, 1601)
What is the Cost for the class?
$20 per class – Sunday Stitching sessions are free. Space is limited – must purchase ahead of time to reserve the spot by the Friday prior to the class. No walk ins – I travel a bit to the shop so if I do not have anyone signed up for a particular class, I will not come to the shop.
