Description
Genesis Slouch Hat — Saturday, February 8th, 15th and 22nd as well as March 1st from 12:45pm to 2:45pm {Must pre-pay to Reserve your Spot}
Learn how to crochet a cute granny square slouchy hat that combines traditional granny squares with the classic granny stitch.
You do not have to know how to crochet to take this class, but it is helpful to be comfortable with working basic stitches before doing an in the round project, like this hat. This hat also uses a joining technique to attach the squares to each other. I highly recommend taking the coaster class first or coming to Sunday Stitching to practice some basic stitches and your tension.
If you don’t want to crochet an entire hat, you can work just the band of granny squares and you’ll have a cute headband / ear warmer.
Cost: $20 — Supplies included
Supplies will include a written crochet pattern in Adult size, 2 balls of worsted weight #4 yarn — specifically, Cascade Pacific (wool blend), Lion Brand Jeans or Color Theory (acrylic) or Berroco Modern Cotton (cotton blend) OR yarn equal to in value — and a H8/5mm crochet hook. I will have other class supplies on hand such as tapestry needles for weaving in ends, scissors and tape measures.
Usually, when comparing gauge, you are instructed to go up or down a hook size to meet gauge. We will discuss this and I will have larger and smaller hooks on hand to switch to if needed. I will show you how to check gauge and adjust as needed to get the correct size so the finished hat will fit correctly.
For me, this beanie took just under 2 hours — keep in mind you may need to restart the first granny square depending on how the gauge compares. Pay once for the class, and return in the same time slot on another Saturday or during Sunday Stitching to continue working and/or finish the hat together.
In this class you will review / learn how to: read a crochet pattern — make a granny square — measure gauge (and adjust as needed to ensure proper fit) — join-as-you-go granny squares — work the Granny Stitch in the round — decrease for the top of the hat — sew closed to finish — weave in ends.
