Description
DMC Tapestry Needles are perfect for a number of yarn projects, including crocheting, knitting as well as needlepointing on fabric and plastic canvas. They are designed with blunt, rounded ends to allow the needles to pass easily through fabric and holes on canvas without snagging (or getting your fingers) in the process. The long oval eye makes threading strands of yarn easier, though you may still want to use a needle threader.
The size of tapestry needle depends heavily on the thickness aka weight of the floss, thread or yarn you’ll be using for your project. Most importantly with needles is to check the fit. I’ve outlined the sizes based on my own experience as a needlepointer and crocheter, but essentially, you want the needle to pull through comfortably. Weaving and sewing in crochet and knitting has more flexibility in needle size choices, but for plastic canvas, you’ll want to ensure the needle is easy to pass through the holes without breaking any holes, and for cloth, you’ll want to ensure the needle does not make the hole larger in the canvas when passed through.
Depending on your project, you may be interested in Bent Tip Tapestry Needles or sharp, Embroidery needles instead.
Choose the size of your tapestry needle to match the thickness of the floss, thread or yarn you’ll be using for your project.
